Following their comprehensive research week, students from 3D Design enjoyed a lovely tea break with miners from Bradford Colliery. As part of ‘Sensing the City’ this was a fantastic opportunity for the students to hear real life stories of the conditions and circumstances of the area they had been researching at the time of the redevelopment and before.
‘After so much research it felt like meeting celebrities and sitting around the same table having a casual conversation was just great’
The miners where lovely and shared invaluable information with the students that really boosted their imagination. Talking about society at the time in comparison to now wasn’t just relevant for their university project but for their general lives too. Students where amazed at how close all the neighbours were and how safe and friendly the community was. This lead to interesting conversations about conceptual ideas for a commemorative sculpture to honour the forgotten period in history.
