Samples, Models, Maquettes & Three Weeks to Go

Words: Abi Goodman

This week saw Unit X students step up a gear as many presented their concepts to peers, staff members and external organisations.

Second year students engaged on Option 4: Design/Studio Hub, Option 4a: Rooftops and Option 6: Whitworth Threads all had the chance to present preliminary pitches to external clients (Bruntwood, the Curiosity Bureau and the Whitworth respectively).

We at the blog were fortunate to chat to students taking part in preliminary pitches for Option 4 and Option 6.

“Sometimes making compromises can be hard as we are all individual artists/ designers. It takes more time to communicate and discuss ideas but it has been good as we have pushed each other.” (Option 6: Whitworth Threads group of students from BA (Hons) Three Dimensional Design and BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice).

“[The Rooftop Project] is enjoyable as it has attracted people with an interest in design and sculptural interests. We’ve got a discipline in this and have had to be really structured in the way we work which is great.” (Fine Art student working within one of the Option 4: Rooftop projects).

With just under three weeks until the final exhibition students are busy finalising their designs ready for installation during the second week of May. We’re really excited by what we’ve seen this week and can’t wait to see how it all pans out for the exhibition!
